Operating Technician (New Hire)
Job Description
Primary Responsibilities & Requirements:
Operating Technician I (River Pilot) is responsible for moving the barge fleet around the Mon River basin. This will include placing barges under and around the Coal Unloaders, which remove the coal from the barges and then place empty barges in a designated pick up area.
Work Environment:
The job is within an industrial environment and you will be required to work within various areas. Dependent upon the area you will work, the environmental conditions can be hot, cold, dirty, greasy, wet, and noisy.
This position requires you to work rotating shifts, which will include Saturdays, Sundays, and Holidays. The position also requires you to work overtime as needed.
Additionally, safety is a core value and safety procedures/guidelines must be adhered to at all times. This includes, but is not limited to, wearing safety apparel such as hard hat, goggles, hearing protection, and protective clothing and work boots with metatarsal protection. Punctuality and attendance are extremely important to the success of the operation in general as well as contributing to an overall positive team atmosphere.
High School diploma/ GED required
Also required: CURRENT UNITED STATES COAST GUARD LICENSE TO OPERATE 1000HP/100 TON MOTOR VESSEL ON THE MONONGAHELA RIVER. MUST ALSO HAVE A CURRENT MERCHANT MARINER CREDENTIAL, MASTER OF A TOWING VESSEL UPON WESTERN RIVERS, CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION RADAR OBSERVER (RIVERS) AND TWIC.
You will also have to take random drug/alcohol testing.
Requires a minimum of 1 year of manufacturing, production, industrial, or related work or military experience.
